Frequently
asked questions

Please note, The Farm will close at the end of the 2022/23 school year. No new registrations are being accepted.
Where is The Farm?
We are in on 15 acres of land, located 3 minutes North of Airdrie.

Can I answer the questions in the application in a way other than by writing?

Yes! You can answer the questions in whatever suits you best: video, podcast etc.

What kind of students would be best for this program?
Students who are willing to try new things and can work with other students, teachers and community members. All learners are welcome to apply: highly academic or students struggling to meet academic requirements. The Farm will be designed for all learners. In grade 10, all "streams", (-1,-2, etc) will be taught.

I don't live in Airdrie. Can I still apply to this program?

Absolutely! The Farm is open to all students in Rocky View. If you live outside of the bussing zone it is your responsibility to find your own transportation. Bussing is available from Airdrie and Crossfield.

I am not a Rocky View Schools student. Can I still apply to the program?
The spots in this program will be offered to Rocky View Schools students first. If all 40 spots are not filled, we will extend the application to out of area students.
If you have any questions about this, please email Greg Rankin at grankin@rockyview..ab.ca

Are you accepting resumes for work on The Farm?
Any job postings for The Farm will be posted on the Rocky View Schools website. We do not collect resumes until a position has been posted.

Are core courses delivered in this program?
Absolutely. Students will take up their FULL curriculum, including math, English, social studies and science.

Does The Farm have a sports team?
At this time, no. We will not offer our own sports teams. Students will have the opportunity to play on sports teams at their "home" high school. Students at The Farm will have a P.E. class that will involve outdoor physical education (snowshoeing, road hockey, hiking etc.) and also take place at Genesis place (sports complex in Airdrie).

I missed the parent information session. Who can I contact with questions?
Please contact Greg Rankin at grankin@rockyview.ab.ca or Mark Turner at maturner@rockyview.ab.ca

Can I take band at The Farm?
Unfortunately, we cannot offer band. You may have the chance to take a band class at your home school if it is offered outside of the regular timetable (before or after school).

How long is The Farm? Will The Farm have the same school breaks?
It will run a full school year, September to June. There will be a portable classroom on The Farm. Students will attend The Farm the same way they would attend a regular school. We have the same school breaks, days off as all schools in Rocky View Schools.
