Class of 2019/20 Learners
We have 34 amazing young people joining us on the journey to understanding food and our connection to the land. We are proud to introduce our co-learners on this path and their motto about life.
The teachers
Matt Chomistek
My schooling made me a teacher, but growing up on a farm made me who I am. The lessons I learned working in agriculture, from a feedlot to a market gardens, taught me far more than a degree could.
I believe that an agriculture based school program can offer students an experience like no other. The results of their work will not be reflected in letter grades or percents, but in the growth of their plants, animals, and understanding. I've seen what happens when schools truly listen to their students and give them the confidence to shape their education. It is truly powerful. That is why I believe in The Farm, and everything The Farm can be. |

The Farm for me is the simple idea of connecting everything we know that is good for learning. People, place and potential.
I want The Farm to be the hub of learning in my community. where people of all ages want to come and connect with not only each other, but themselves. To be reminded that life is simple. I want The Farm to be the place where we all reconnect with what sustains us, not only the food we grow, but the relationships that are gained because of it. I want The Farm to be a beacon of what learning could be when schools and communities work together to mentor and share with our young people that we are greater together. For the last 5 years, I have had the privilege of teaching in one of the most powerful and amazing learning opportunities on the planet, Building Futures (where students learn to build two homes with a local builder all while learning their core classes). Teaching there taught me that it was not only about the house, it was about creating as many opportunities for our people to explore their future. It taught me what it means to connect students to their community in an authentic manner. One where young people walk away more confident in who they are and that their world is better when they give back to their community. |
